Raggedy Annie Dolls
Create an heirloom for a special child! With just a few lengths of fabric, yarn, and buttons, you can sew traditional or unique Raggedy Annie Dolls that can be passed down for generations.
I use the old McCall's pattern #2531. With this pattern, you can make three sizes. My favorite is the 15” size. The 20” size is also a great size for a beloved doll.
As you can see, my patterns are old and beat up. I have 5 – just in case! You can find these patterns for sale on eBay or Etsy.
Rummage through your fabric stash and pull out fun pieces that you think will make an adorable outfit for your doll. You can make the clothes color-matched or just off the wall and mismatched.
For the bodies, I like to use old, vintage Damask tablecloths. I can usually find these at flea markets. It doesn’t matter if they have holes or stains, as you can cut around these – and they usually cost minimal since who wants a tablecloth with holes … we do! You can also use muslin for the body.
Choose fun buttons for eyes or embroidery thread if you want to stitch the eyes on.
I stuff the bodies with polyester fiberfill.
I like to make the hair super long and floppy. And then tear or cut a ribbon from one of your chosen fabrics to add another cute touch.
